Day 1: The Promise
Day 1 – The Promise
Scripture (KJV):
Acts 1:4–5
“And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from
Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father… For John truly baptized with water; but ye
shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

Devotion: The Sacred Space of Waiting
“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised…” — Acts of the Apostles 1:4
Before the fire of Pentecost fell, before the rushing wind filled the room, before boldness
replaced fear—there was a command: wait. This instruction from Jesus to His disciples was not a
delay tactic; it was divine preparation. God was not withholding—He was aligning.
Waiting often feels like silence, like stillness, like nothing is happening. Yet in the economy of
God, waiting is never wasted. It is in the waiting that hearts are softened, motives are refined,
and dependence is deepened. The disciples, gathered together in obedience, were not idle—they
were postured. Prayer replaced panic. Unity replaced uncertainty. Expectation replaced fear.
We tend to equate movement with progress, but God often does His deepest work beneath the
surface. Just as a field must be prepared before the rain, or a vessel must be emptied before it can
be filled, so our lives must be aligned before God pours out His Spirit in fresh ways.
The command to wait is not a call to inactivity—it is an invitation to intimacy. It is where we
learn to trust God’s timing over our urgency. It is where we exchange control for surrender.
Waiting becomes the sacred space where God prepares us for what we’ve been praying for.
If you find yourself in a season of waiting, resist the urge to rush ahead. Lean in. Listen closely.
Align your heart with His. The fire is coming—but first, there is formation.
Reflection Question:
Where might God be asking you to wait—not as a punishment, but as preparation for His next
move in your life
Prayer:
“Lord, help me trust Your timing.”
Serving Focus:
Encourage someone in a waiting season.
Reflection Questions:
1. 2. 3. Where am I resisting waiting?
What is God forming in me?
How can I wait with expectation?
