Day 28- Self Control
Self-Control
Scripture: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” — Epistle to the Galatians
Devotion:
The fire of God is powerful, but it must be stewarded wisely. Spiritual passion without self-control can become emotional excitement that burns brightly for a moment and then fades away. God desires believers who are not only filled with His fire but also disciplined enough to sustain it.
Self-control is evidence that the Holy Spirit is at work within us. It enables us to govern our thoughts, words, emotions, desires, and actions according to God’s will rather than our impulses. The strongest person is not the one who controls others, but the one who, through God’s grace, has learned to control themselves.
Throughout Scripture, God used people who practiced discipline. They prayed when they did not feel like praying, obeyed when it was difficult, and remained focused when distractions surrounded them. Their consistency allowed the fire of God to burn steadily in their lives.
Today, ask the Lord to reveal areas where greater discipline is needed. Whether in speech, habits, attitudes, spending, eating, or time management, surrender those areas to Him. The fire of God is not meant to consume recklessly but to burn with purpose and power.
When self-control guides your passion, your spiritual fire becomes lasting, effective, and fruitful.
Prayer:
Father, give me discipline and self-control through Your Spirit. Help me steward the fire You have placed within me. Strengthen me to resist temptation, overcome distractions, and live according to Your will. Let my life reflect maturity, wisdom, and obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Serving Challenge:
Practice restraint today. Choose one area where you normally act impulsively and intentionally submit it to God as an act of worship.
